My family stayed at the Sunset Victorian Retreat home this past Christmas, and we had a fabulous time together. The owner, Sue, and the home provided my family with everything you could ask for: the home was immaculate and recently updated, decorated for the holiday season, spacious - we all had our separate rooms, plenty of bathroom space, each room had its own unique theme, my husband really enjoyed the fireplace and the wrap around porch, and the kids loved just hanging out together, and close to all the amenities South Haven has to offer. We will definitely return in the future and I would give this home 5 stars.

The house is beautiful. Very spacious with lots of room for a large family or multiple families to stay together without feeling cramped. This house is in a quiet part of South Haven that is still close to Downtown and the beaches. Plenty to do for the children.

This house is relaxing and beautiful with ample space, and adorable bedrooms. It is perfect for large groups, and the location is incredibly convienent. Great place to spend a vacation.

Very large, spacious house. Plenty of room for the biggest group of people staying there. Beautiful Victorian with all of the modern amenities, and very close to everything there is to see in South Haven. I enjoyed the house very much, Thanks!

The house was beautiful, spacious with all the amenities. The history was in the house and its appearance. Loved the wrap around porch...great for early morning coffee and reading in the summer. Close to the beach, walking distance to all. Lots of room for large families though children not really made to feel welcome through the owners comments at check in of previous guest. Found these comments to be unprofessional, especially since we were bringing all of our grandchildren. House accomadates 23 guest but waste service for 4 and the containers still had left trash from previous guest. Would recommend a complete review of the contract in person at check in.

Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed the home and all it had to offer.

We are sorry you were frustrated with several other situations.

As for the Rental Agreement (contract), a copy is sent to the reserving party well before check in. This copy is to be read and agreed to. A signed contract has the expectation that all parties will comply. It is up to the reserving party how, or if, they choose to share all information with their guests. The last thing we want to do upon check in is spend time going over "rules." Not a fun way to start a vacation. We trust that people read what they sign and stick to the agreement. If it was not for a scheduled wedding this week, your group could have been asked to leave for multiple violations of the signed agreement.

Our “guest occupancy” agreement includes an allowed number of guests and the requirement of names and addresses to be provided. Children are included as guests for the total count. The list of guests was not provided by this group (which obviously exceeded the amount provided in the agreement).

Supervised children are always welcome and are included in the total number of guests.

As for the trash, the City of South Haven schedules trash pickup on Monday. Understanding it can be frustrating to deal with the prior week’s garbage, the owner pulls the garbage dumpster from the week prior to the road on Sunday afternoon or evening.

When excessively large groups arrive and parties take place (which are not allowed except for written prior approval) the guests agree to put out excess garbage in large black garbage bags (that are picked up by the city on the following Monday).

We also encourage the recycling bin to be utilized and a separate container is provided for Michigan returnable bottles and cans.

The house was great...we enjoyed having the chance to stay in such a beautiful place. We were able to join with other family members and get to know new family. My teenage daughter loved staying in the upper level that was uniquely designed and secluded. Lots of things to do no matter the weather. Though a little disappointed in the comments made by the owner in regards to small children as I had two under the age of 7.

I am not quite sure what comments you are referring to made in regards to small children. We love them visiting when they are supervised and staying out of the road! Children are included in the total number of allowed guests per the occupancy agreement. With this large group, all names were not provided prior to check in and therefore exceeded the allowed amount and violated contract terms.

My stay was short had to work but got to enjoy the house for a few days. Beautiful home with a lot of history. Lots of space to enjoy the outdoors as well. A great wrap-a-round porch. The kids loved being so close to the beach, yet not in the busy section of town.

I loved staying in this house! Absolutely beautiful! It has a ton of space for everyone to stay comfortably! My 2 children and I really enjoyed our visit. Close enough to everything, but still out of the way of all the foot traffic. Quiet and peaceful!

Thank you for your kind words. There is plenty of room for the children when they are included in the total number of guests per the occupancy agreement! :)

Many of our relatives stayed in the Sunset Victorian House during the week of a family wedding. What an amazing, perfect place! We loved the large wrap around porch, well landscaped yard for games and play, as well as what seemed like endless number of rooms. And, downtown South Haven is a quaint, beautiful town with lots to do.

We hosted a women's retreat & enjoyed a wonderful time in South Haven! We loved the wrap-around porch, and even though it was October, it was plenty warm enough to sit outside! We loved the quiet neighborhood, the proximity to town (for a little shopping), Clementines for dinner, and the spaciousness of the house. Plenty of room for privacy and time alone with God. Hope to return soon!

We stayed at the Sunset Victorian for a week. We had a house full of guests and it was the most wonderful and amazing experience. Since we were hosting our daughters wedding and reception in South Haven we needed a large house and lots of space. It became our HOME for that week with people dropping by and gatherings of family and friends. It was so perfect and Sue was Brilliant and Marvelous; she helped us out with some unexpected problems and we could have never asked for more. All of this happened in September of 2013 and every time we look at the pictures we are so thrilled with our choice of Sue and the lovely Sunset Victorian!!! Thank You so much!

Spent a weekend recently for a Ladies Retreat for the second time and had a wonderful trip. Quiet and spacious yet close enough to walk downtown for shopping and dining. The house is spacious and fully equipped with amenities. I LOVE the attic loft and sleeping up there made me fell like a kid again.

Our 4 generation family of 16 (plus 2 very small babies) enjoyed our Vacation in South Haven very much. The Sunset Victorian House was Wonderful - we especially liked the wrap around porch, the patio, big yard and quiet neighborhood. But still within walking distance of the Beach and down town. Sue was quick to help us with a couple small problems and the whole week was Great. We look forward to returning next summer - same time - same place!!
